Sea Kayaking Johnstone Strait - Orca Waters Day Trip
Your chances of seeing orcas on a day trip are good but they are wild animals and do not always conform to our plans. Even without the orcas we have opportunities to see humpback and Minke whales, Dall's porpoises, pacific white sided dolphins, seals, sea lions and a wide variety of sea birds and inter-tidal life. To increase your odds of seeing orcas and more wildlife we suggest our longer 4 day Orca Waters - Base Camp or 6 day Orca Waters Explorer tours. We have averaged about 50% success rate of seeing whales on our day trips compared to over 95% on our longer base camp and explorer tours.
We provide stable double kayaks, all paddling and safety gear (including paddling jackets and pogies), water bottles, snacks and lunch (warm drinks available with lunch). You should wear shoes that you can get wet and synthetic clothing (avoid cotton), sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are also strongly recommended and we do have dry bags that you can keep a few things dry in the cockpit with you as well as dry bags for any additional clothing you may wish to bring. The mornings can often be cool and overcast and as the day progresses the sun will burn through the clouds and it can warm up quite a bit so dressing in layers is the best way to go..
