B&B Sea Kayaking
For those who want to experience a number of days kayaking in the Johnstone Strait and Blackfish Sound area yet return to a warm bed every night we offer our Bed & Breakfast based tour.
We base ourselves in our favourite Bed & Breakfast which is situated on 10 private acres in Mitchell Bay on Malcolm Island. This location offers us a great base for daily kayak trips and a great beach to enjoy evening barbeques.
We offer this tour for private groups of 2 to 5 and each tour is customized to the wants and needs of each group. In addition to kayaking day trips we often add grizzly watching or marine wildlife safaris by motor boat to allow you to experience as much of the area as possible in a limited time.
Below is a sample 3 Nights Accommodation and 2 days of kayaking and a 4 Nights Accommodation, 2 days of kayaking and 1 day bear viewing or marine safari tour itinerary to get you thinking. Contact us to begin putting together a package that is right for you.
3 Nights Accommodation and 2 days of kayaking:
Day 1: We pick you up at the Port Hardy airport or you can meet your guide in Port McNeill in the late afternoon. From Port McNeill we will transport you in our van and by ferry to the B&B (you are welcome to bring your own car but about 20 minutes of the drive is on a a gravel road). On the way to the Bed & Breakfast we will stop in Sointula for dinner at the local "Wild Island Foods". Meals Included: Dinner
Day 2: Your Bed and Breakfast suite has its own kitchen and is stocked with everything you need for breakfast. Fresh ground coffee, organic cereals, yogurt, eggs and fresh home baked bread.
After breakfast we will spend a full day kayaking the north shore of Malcolm Island where we have great opportunities for wildlife viewing. Eagles dot the trees seals regularly pop their heads out of the water and we are on a regular travel route of the resident orcas and in a favorite feeding area of humpback whales. We will enjoy a gourmet lunch at Lizard Point which has great views of the mainland mountains and exploring the fringe between the beach and the forest will show you the power of winter storms on this exposed point.
At the end of the day we will enjoy a salmon barbecue prepared by your guide in the B&B's beach kitchen. If not a fan of seafood most dietary restrictions can be met with advance notice. Meals Included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner
Day 3: We will spend the day exploring the bays and channels in our kayaks. Excellent chances of viewing marine mammals and sea birds plus this area is great at low tide with lots of colourful inter-tidal life. Tonight's dinner will feature local prawns. Meals Included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner
Day 4: After enjoying your breakfast your guide will drive you back to Port McNeill or to the Port Hardy Airport. Ferries depart the island at 8:00 and 11:00 am. Meals Included: Breakfast
4 Nights Accommodation, 2 days of kayaking and 1 day bear or marine safari tour:
Same as above but between the two days of kayaking we add a day where we will either travel by boat up Knight Inlet to view the grizzly bears at Glendale Cove or spend the day on a private motorized marine safari exploring farther flung places we cannot easily reach by kayak. Bear viewing tends to be best in June and September and the marine safari in July and August.
